Damiana is a flowering shrub with aromatic leaves. A native of Mexico, Central America and the American Southwest, it has long been used to make lovers’ teas, flavored wines and cordials.
It is commonly used to treat depression and nervousness and to relieve anxiety associated with sexual dysfunction. It is also used for headaches, bedwetting, nervous stomach, and constipation; for prevention and treatment of sexual problems; boosting and maintaining mental and physical stamina; and as an aphrodisiac.
